Phoebe ChenTaiwanFounder, Taiwan Green Energy for Charity Association (TGECA)
The Taiwan Green Energy for Charity Association (TGECA) was established in 2018 to promote green energy and carbon reduction charity models.
Its founder, Phoebe (Hui-Ping) Chen, a sociologist and social entrepreneur, is dedicated to promoting “sustainable energy for all.” To ensure that no one is left behind in the energy transition process, particularly vulnerable groups, she established TGECA and created an innovative green energy charity model. This model focuses on installing solar photovoltaic systems and replacing energy-consuming equipment in social welfare institutions, helping to reduce the climate impact and energy vulnerability faced by these groups due to global warming.
To promote this transition, TGECA launched the “Green Well 100+” Green Energy Charity Initiative in 2021. Additionally, in April 2024, Phoebe further established the “Taiwan Gender Network for Net Zero.” Through expanded networking and education empowerment, TGECA aims to mobilize more stakeholders, especially women and young people, to join them in promoting climate justice and energy welfare services, ensuring that all people have a sustainable future.“Google’s collaboration with TGECA led to the construction of a citizen power plant in Changhua (Beidou Township), which began operation in 2024.”

Jeroen de SchutterMiddenmeer, NetherlandsGeneral Director, Agrotheek
Agrotheek is a nonprofit that teaches farmers how to work with innovations to get healthy crops and good income with lower costs and higher yield. Agrotheek's general director, Jeroen de Schutter, saw an opportunity in the land outside our Middenmeer, Netherlands, data center. He approached us about cultivating the land to use as a learning field to demonstrate new innovations to farmers.
At the end of the season, Agrotheek sells the crops and uses the profits to support the institutes in the community, like the local football team and choir.“During the season when crops were growing, people from the Google data center liked what they saw and came once a month to view our fields. If we continue next year, we can grow tulips. It’s a beautiful garden in front of the data center.”

Pia QuirozQuilicura, ChileGoogler, Area Security Manager at Data Centers in Latin America
As an area security manager for Google Data Centers, Pia Quiroz is responsible for the physical security of our operations throughout Latin America, including at our Quilicura, Chile, data center. She loves many aspects of her role. She says, “I feel very lucky to be part of the amazing team that makes sure that the information of all our users, including our own information, is safe and secure [because of our] access to cutting-edge technology.”
Pia also loves that through Google Data Centers, she has had the opportunity to work with people from different countries and cultures. She is also grateful that she has been able to help make a difference in the community. She has participated in programs that have expanded opportunities at local schools, helped plant trees for an urban forest in Santiago, Chile, and led activities for the improvement of housing for the elderly. She reflects on how these projects created opportunities for the region. “People with less access to technology [get to] see and experience what a big tech company can do to improve the lives of many different people.”“In the past few years, I’ve seen how Chile is becoming a globalized country. The data center employs people from different countries, which creates a really nice culture of learning, embracing differences and diversity to complement local knowledge, creating a really rich work environment.”

Cultivating growth in
our data center communities
Data centers are the engine for the transition to the digital economy. They link people to a variety of industries, from supermarkets and retailers to schools and nonprofits.
Accelerating economies
Together, we are driving increased economic growth, supporting local innovation, and creating career opportunities within each of our data center communities.
Workforce development
As a responsible neighbor, we are partnering with, and investing in, our data center communities to provide sustained support through workforce development, educational opportunities, and other beneficial initiatives. With inclusive access to AI and digital opportunities, we can better prepare communities to thrive for generations.
Google is proud to operate multiple data centers in Northern Virginia — a global hub of the digital economy — and to support community organizations there that are enabling people and changing lives. We've collaborated with two inspiring local organizations in the region, Global Inheritance and Mobile Hope, to introduce more young women to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and to combat youth homelessness.
In Hamina, Finland, where Google has a data center, we are working with city-owned energy provider Haminan Energia to kick off our first offsite heat recovery project to reduce our environmental footprint, as well as help warm homes and businesses in this historic port city.
Expanding access
Each day, we build for a tomorrow where everyone can benefit. We strengthen community connections by investing in local initiatives like sustainability programs for young children. We enhance digital integration with projects like rural internet connectivity. And we spark economic opportunities by providing high-paying jobs through our infrastructure projects.
Building toward a more
sustainable future
We harness technology to spur positive environmental change
We aspire to build the most efficient computing systems, while caring for water resources and making energy grids strong. We work with communities to ensure we responsibly power the products and services our communities rely on.

The Rødby Fjord solar project adds clean energy to the grid that powers our data center in Fredericia, Denmark.
