A hallmark of technology and sustainability, our data centre campus in St.
Ghislain-Mons, Belgium, represents our ability to innovate an industry and a
community. Using chilled water from an industrial canal to cool the servers and
a solar farm to help generate power, our data centre campus is leading the way
in climate-friendly data solutions. As we continue to invest in Belgium, we look
forward to continuing to partner with the local workforce and support our
community’s most important issues.

Generous combination of energy infrastructure and location
Cluster of high-tech businesses
A skilled local workforce
Investment to date
€5B+
Since 2007, Google has invested more than €5 billion in the country in data centres and related infrastructure.
Battery-based system
1st
In Belgium, we installed the first-ever battery-based system for replacing generators at a hyperscale data centre. This shifts the energy from high CO2 grid-emitting hours to carbon-free hours, creating a fast-response load change. This supports the scale and deployment acceleration of energy storage by demonstrating an alternative backup power model for all data centres.
Carbon-free energy score
82%
To help Belgium achieve its goal of net-zero emissions, Google in 2022 provided a carbon-free energy score of 82%.
Google-supported projects, like this solar facility, put Saint-Ghislain and Belgium as a whole on the map as digital front-runners — regions whose digital expertise and environmental infrastructure make them attractive to other large tech investors.
