Powering possibility
everywhere we plug in
As a leader in energy innovation, Google is helping build the systems needed to power a brighter future for all.

Powering people
We believe in energy solutions that benefit everyone.
Google is committed to being a good neighbor. That's why we prioritize affordable, reliable, and clean energy in the communities we call home. Our investments have a ripple effect that creates vital jobs and helps our neighbors power their kitchens, classrooms, and businesses. We also offer workforce development training, support educational initiatives, and provide critical home upgrades to help families lower their energy bills and reduce strain on the grid.
-
$580
Google collaborated with Sol Systems to help reduce energy costs and expand access to clean energy for North Carolina and South Carolina families, leading to an average savings of $580 per home each year.

-
Building resiliency hubs
We proudly support the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute’s work to create energy resilience hubs that will use on-site solar with battery storage to reduce monthly electricity costs and provide back-up power during extreme weather events. This will ensure residents have a safe space to meet, learn, and stay warm in the winter and cool during the summer.
-
Heating homes and buildings
We transformed an abandoned paper mill into a digital hub that now serves as a community source for sustainable heat. Using our innovative waste heat recovery technology, our Hamina, Finland data center will provide an estimated 80% of the heating needs for local homes and public buildings. We provide high-paying jobs through the facility and will turn what would have been waste heat into a free-of-charge and clean energy resource for our neighbors.
-
Empowering workers
As technology and AI evolve, we are ensuring people grow alongside it, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need for jobs in the digital economy. This includes our Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) Program, the Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship, the AI Opportunity Fund, and our effort to train 100,000 electrical workers and 30,000 new apprentices with funding from Google.org to significantly grow the U.S. electrical workforce.
Powering systems

We develop transformative solutions to modernize energy systems.
Google is powering a new era of innovation by securing historic levels of clean energy, collaborating to design better markets, and investing in energy-efficient technologies. Our data centers are some of the most efficient in the world, constantly optimizing energy use to deliver vastly more computing power with minimal waste. We create energy systems and technologies that are smarter, cleaner, and more reliable than ever before.
-
22 GW
From 2010 to 2024, we signed more than 170 agreements to purchase over 22 GW of clean energy generation, similar to Portugal’s total renewable energy in 2024.
-
Developing energy-efficient technologies
Google data centers—which power all our products including Search, YouTube, Google Cloud, Gemini, and more—deliver over six times more computing power per unit of electricity than just five years ago. Today, a median Gemini text prompt uses 0.24 watt-hours of energy, the equivalent of watching TV for a little less than nine seconds. We're also piloting a new way for our data centers to temporarily reduce power use during peak hours or grid emergencies. This demand flexibility helps prevent outages that disrupt daily life and strengthens the grid when it's needed most.
-
Upgrading grid infrastructure
Just as the world has upgraded from dial-up to high-speed internet to unlock the digital age, we must now upgrade our electrical infrastructure to power the next era of technological leadership. Google’s collaboration with CTC Global will help scale the use of their high-capacity advanced conductors, a proven technology demonstrated to boost grid capacity and reliability at unparalleled speed.
-
Creating new models for energy
A core part of Google’s responsible growth strategy is ensuring that our expansion does not burden local communities or ratepayers. Through collaboration with partners across the U.S., we are pioneering new cost-effective ways to secure clean energy and improve grid reliability. This includes the Clean Transition Tariff (CTT), a new type of agreement that helps utilities and large companies invest in advanced energy technologies without raising electricity costs for other customers.
Powering the future

We innovate today to build a better energy landscape tomorrow.
Google has an ambition to power our operations with carbon-free energy, every hour of every day. We leverage proven technologies like solar, wind, hydropower, and batteries while also investing in cutting-edge research, development, and deployment of advanced energy solutions. Through partnerships with industry leaders to bring a diverse set of resources onto the grid, we’re helping to build a brighter future for all.
-
100%
We’ve maintained a 100% renewable energy match on a global basis every year since 2017.
-
Unlocking the promise of nuclear energy
We’re investing in the next generation of nuclear power. Google signed the world's first corporate agreement to buy energy from multiple small modular reactors (SMRs) to be developed by Kairos Power. These reactors are designed to provide always-on clean power to U.S. grids by 2035. We’re also supporting multiple technological pathways for fusion energy, which would harness the same energy that powers the sun and the stars, through our investments in Commonwealth Fusion Systems and TAE Technologies.
-
Tapping into geothermal power
We’re forging a new path to develop and scale enhanced geothermal energy worldwide. Geothermal taps into the Earth's consistent heat, providing reliable, round-the-clock electricity to help us meet our carbon-free energy ambition. In the U.S., we partnered with Fervo Energy on the world's first corporate agreement for enhanced geothermal power, which is now operational in Nevada. In Taiwan, we signed Asia’s first corporate agreement for geothermal energy with Baseload Capital.
-
Charging ahead with long-duration energy storage
The sun sets, but the demand for energy doesn’t. That’s why we’re investing in long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies with Energy Dome. LDES is an emerging solution that can store renewable power for longer durations, which helps grids to run on clean energy around the clock. By supporting multiple LDES pilot projects, we aim to accelerate the learnings and innovation needed to help these technologies commercialize and scale.

Optimizing the grid with AI
We're using AI to build a stronger and more resilient grid in collaboration with PJM Interconnection, North America's largest grid operator, and Tapestry, an Alphabet-incubated moonshot. Tapestry is developing AI tools to intelligently manage and optimize how new energy sources connect to the grid. This can help PJM connect power to the grid much faster, reducing a massive backlog of energy projects. The goal is to make energy more reliable and affordable for the 67 million people PJM serves, ensuring everyone benefits from a smarter energy system.
