Google makes Finland’s largest-ever foreign investment and begins construction of the new data centre campus in Vaala.

Google announces the acquisition of 900 hectares of land in Vaala for potential future data centre development.
2009
Google opens our first data centre in Finland in the old Summa paper mill in Hamina.
We are planning our Vaala data centre using extensive research and ongoing dialogue with local communities and authorities. Site activity is currently limited to preliminary infrastructure development, and we’re preparing to transition into the next phase of construction. All work is proceeding in full compliance with obtained permits. This website will be updated with the latest updates on the project.
