What is the Energy Impact Program?

In 2023, Google began collaborating with governments, utilities, and nonprofits to deploy Energy Impact Funds — investments in community-based initiatives designed to drive down electricity bills for our neighbors and strengthen local power grids. The program is built on a simple premise: our presence should be a powerful engine for local economic growth and an opportunity to solve the toughest energy challenges for families.

$545-$729

In North and South Carolina, our support of local weatherization readiness and health and safety repairs led to annual cost savings estimated at $545–$729 per participating home.

Supporting real solutions

Home repairs & upgrades

Many homes would benefit from energy-efficiency upgrades, but issues like old wiring, roof damage, or moisture can prevent participation in existing programs. To help close this gap, Google funds local partners who provide no-cost home repairs and energy efficiency improvements like new insulation and HVAC systems to help lower monthly bills.
Community power projects

Local schools and community centers need reliable power during extreme weather events. We fund solar and battery storage installations to strengthen the resilience of these vital neighborhood hubs. These projects keep the lights on during power outages while helping to lower energy costs.
Energy job training

Building a stronger grid creates high demand for workers in the skilled trades. We fund energy apprenticeships and hands-on technical training to help local workers earn certifications and secure high-paying jobs within their own communities.

Building energy-efficient homes with the South Carolina Office of Resilience

In 2024, Google began working alongside the South Carolina Office of Resilience to support the state’s recovery from Hurricane Helene. Together, we’re helping build safer, energy-efficient homes for families impacted by the storm.

Installing cost-saving heat pumps with Georgia Power

Google is collaborating with Georgia Power to install free energy-efficient heat pumps for eligible residents, which is helping families save money and live more comfortably.
